ISSUE 1

ISSUE 1: JUNE 1999

EDITORS CORNER

You may have noticed that I have called this issue, Issue 1, even though it is my second attempt. I decided to do this because the last one was a mess!
It was tacky and had more mistakes than letters. This was probably because I was doing it at the same time as my GCSE exams and during this time, my brain was pretty dead! However, with my brain in top gear now and more time, since finishing school, I have produced a better Newsletter. This Newsletter isn't tacky and has an organised front page instead of a front cover. I have also changed the name. Because of all these changes I called it Issue 1 to signify a new start.

I was very pleased with the way the first meeting went. I thought it was lots of fun and I met some new friends. I am very much looking forward to the next meetings and the barbecue on July 18th. Since the first meeting I have kept in touch with some of the members and have done several other activities including Newmarket Carnival, to promote the club. I also attended the first Committee meeting.

I hope to get to know you better at the next meeting.

CAPTAINS LOG

What a great time we had at our first meeting. I was so pleased to see so many people. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves. I knew once the initial panic had worn off I enjoyed myself. I have to thank every body who helped in any way. I like to think we got the balance right and that there was something for everyone. Hopefully next time there will be more people in costume. I know we have some more Klingons and a couple of Vulcans. I am glad to say that the General is with us again for both of the meetings in July. We hope plenty of you will come to Lakenheath Football Club on Wednesday 14th July, 6pm to 9pm.

We have a copy of the television appearance and will be showing it at the next Bury St Edmunds meeting on July 18th. This will be a barbecue so bring some food.

We have been doing some charity appearances in costume and it is going well. Klingons and Borg are very popular. We have decided to raise funds for the Sea Cadets to buy their own computer system. The main way we are doing this is by charging £2.50 to have a photo taken with a Borg, Klingon or Vulcan. We are trying it out at Newmarket Carnival on Saturday 10th July, lets hope it works!

We want your ideas and support, so that we can plan out our next few meetings. We need a Barbecue and volunteers to cook. Also a TV & Video would be helpful.

I am looking forward to getting to know you all a lot better.

IDEAS FOR THE FUTURE: Conventions....... Carnival...... Summer Ball...... Any more ideas?

See you all at the next meeting

THIS MONTHS PROFILE

T'Pina

Rank: Commander

Position: First Officer to Starbase Commander, Fleet Captain Annarita Jat.

Branch: Engineering Science

Specialisations: Computers & Scientific Instrumentation

Service History:

Since graduating from Starfleet Academy T'Pina has served on various vessels within Starfleet ranging from Science & Exploration ships of various sizes, Border Patrol Destroyers up to the Galaxy Class Starships and has received several commenda tions during her active service. Her last active service rank & post was Lt. Commander, Assistant Chief Engineering Officer aboard USS Illustrious. She has also served twice at Starfleet Academy as an Instructor (computers/engineering) and later as Officer in Charge of Basic Training.

Unfortunately, she is no longer able to actively serve on Starfleet Vessels, due to the injuries sustained during the conflict with the Borg at Wolf 359. She has undergone extensive surgery and regeneration but some injuri es will never recover. She continues to receive medical treatment during periodic visits to the Vulcan Medical Facility. One of the injuries sustained, resulted in the loss of her ears. New ears have been successfully regenerated but the distinctive Vulcan shape has yet to re-grow. This should be accomplished during her next visit to the regeneration centre on Vulcan.

Despite her injuries, Starfleet consider her too valuable, in terms of knowledge and experience, to be pensioned out of Starfleet and into obscurity. It is exactly this breadth of knowledge, range of skills and unique personality, which Starfleet considered to be particularly suited to this newly commissioned Starbase, and all the inherent problems associated with its location.

Therefore, T'Pina has been assigned to assist FCpt. Jat in getting the Starbase up to full operational status, within a tight deadline set by Starfleet Command and maintain that status along with the duties expected of a First Officer.
